Epic Games rolls out faster, AI-built launcher with Linux support

Epic Games released a preview of a revamped PC launcher that runs faster, looks new, and adds Linux compatibility, built using AI tools.

Epic Games announced a preview of a significantly upgraded PC games launcher, describing it as markedly faster and more responsive than one outlet version. The redesign was driven by the firm’s broader push into AI-assisted development, with AI used to reproduce essential functionality and to create a Linux-compatible client, though human engineers supervised the process. CEO Tim Sweeney highlighted a company-wide shift toward maximizing AI acceleration for developers.

VP Martin Keely said the AI tools helped speed testing and code replication, but the team still wrote and reviewed all code. The legacy launcher will stay online while the new version is refined, and Epic intends to launch Fortnite on Linux through the updated app. No firm timeline for full migration was given.

Why it matters

The new launcher expands gaming to Linux users and showcases AI's role in speeding software development.
