EPP lawmaker says Russia is expanding strikes to homes and cultural sites

EPP MEP Pekka Toveri warns that Russian attacks are increasingly hitting residential areas, cultural venues and government buildings in Ukraine.

Pekka Toveri, a former Finnish army general serving as an EPP member of the European Parliament, said Russia has abandoned previous targeting rules and is now striking homes, cultural institutions and state offices. He argued that Moscow's ground forces have failed to achieve significant gains in the war. Toveri called on the EU to keep backing Ukraine, end Russian gas purchases and tighten sanctions against Russia.

Why it matters

The remarks signal heightened EU pressure on Russia and underscore the widening impact of the war on civilian sites.
