Erdogan says nine ships, eleven aircraft still searching for missing ferry victims
President Erdogan announced nine ships and eleven aircraft are continuing the search for the 14 missing passengers after the Kyrenia-Tasucu ferry capsized.
The capsizing of a passenger ferry traveling from Kyrenia to Tasucu on August 30 claimed 14 lives and left another 14 unaccounted for. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reported that a combined Turkish and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus operation now involves nine ships and eleven aircraft searching the wreckage. An investigation by North Cyprus authorities has detained all eight crew members, among them the captain, and the judicial process is being monitored.
Turkish Cypriot prime minister-designate Unal Ustel flew to Turkey to discuss reports from deep-sea salvage experts and to meet insurance officials before returning to outline a rescue roadmap for families. Two Turkish navy research vessels, TCG Isin and TCG Alemdar, continue operations despite refuelling pauses, and crew rotations will keep the search uninterrupted.
