Eric Ciotti warns that abandoning force could threaten the Republic

Eric Ciotti told a newspaper that if France stops using force against what he calls “barbarians,” the Republic could collapse, outlining measures he would pursue with Marine Le Pen if she wins the 2027 election.

Eric Ciotti explained that the recent riots in Nice involved a courageous shopkeeper who avoided harm and a police officer who required surgery after sustaining a double leg fracture. He reported that 16 commercial premises were hit, with four completely pillaged, and that tramways, police vehicles, traffic lights and surveillance cameras were also vandalised. Ciotti attributed the chaos to a convergence of narcotrafficking, Islamist elements and ultra-left groups. He warned that abandoning the use of force against such actors would lead to the Republic’s downfall, and said these are the policies he would enforce alongside Marine Le Pen if she is elected in 2027.

Why it matters

The remarks signal a hard-line security stance that could shape France's political debate ahead of the 2027 election.
