Ericsson to ship Indian-made antennas to Europe, citing 5G edge for 6G rollout

Ericsson said it will start exporting antennas manufactured in India to Europe, using India's swift 5G rollout as a competitive advantage for future 6G development.

During a keynote at the India Mobile Congress 2026, Ericsson's Andres Vicente revealed that the company will export the antennas it builds in India to customers across Europe. He pointed out that India's mid-band 5G coverage now reaches 95% of the population, a stark contrast to the roughly 45% global average. The country also boasts 430 million 5G subscriptions, representing 35% of all mobile lines, with 43% of mobile data already traveling over 5G networks.

Vicente said India's transition to a standalone, cloud-driven 5G architecture has laid the groundwork for the next generation, 6G. He added that artificial intelligence will reshape telecom, requiring more compute power at the network edge to support low-latency use cases such as autonomous vehicles and drones. By exporting Indian-made hardware, Ericsson aims to leverage this momentum to strengthen European network deployments.

Why it matters

The move signals India's growing role in global telecom supply chains and its readiness for next-gen 6G networks.
