Ernie Accorsi, legendary former Giants GM, dies at 84 after cancer battle

Ernie Accorsi, the former general manager of the New York Giants who was instrumental in acquiring quarterback Eli Manning, died on Saturday night at the age of 84 after a short bout with cancer. Born and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Accorsi started his career as a sportswriter for one outlet, later working for the Charlotte News and covering major stories such as Wilt Chamberlain’s trade. He moved into NFL management, serving with the Indianapolis Colts and the Cleveland Browns before joining the Giants, where he earned a reputation for deep historical insight and witty commentary.
