Estee Lauder appoints chief technology and transformation officer to embed AI across the firm

Estee Lauder has promoted Brian Franz to chief technology and transformation officer, tasking him with expanding AI use throughout the company.

After 18 months as head of data, technology and analytics, Brian Franz has been elevated to chief technology and transformation officer at Estee Lauder. In his expanded role he will continue to manage the global IT organization, deepen partnerships with Shopify and Accenture, and champion AI adoption for both employees and consumers. Franz is rolling out AI productivity suites such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT to the company’s 14,000 staff while piloting specialized tools that accelerate product formulation and streamline manufacturing lines.

The initiative aligns with CEO Stephane de La Faverie's "Beauty Reimagined" plan, which seeks to revive growth after a period of weak demand. Recent quarterly results showed stronger luxury fragrance and skincare sales, giving the AI push a positive backdrop. Franz also highlighted collaborations with Google Cloud, Adobe and the launch of a scent-advisor AI for Jo Malone London as part of the broader transformation agenda.

Why it matters

The appointment signals a major push to embed AI in a leading cosmetics company, affecting product development, operations and consumer experience.
