Estonia's August industrial output climbs 4.5% driven by energy surge

Estonia's industrial production rose 4.5% year-on-year in August, with energy output jumping nearly 57% while manufacturing grew modestly.

Statistics Estonia reported a 4.5% year-on-year increase in August industrial production, measured at constant prices. Energy output led the gains with a 56.9% rise, propelled by higher wind, solar and electricity exports. Manufacturing added 1.2% overall, offset by declines in wood (-0.6%) and food (-3.8%) production, while electrical equipment rose 12.2% due to more electric motors, generators and transformers.

Mining output jumped 25.3% as extraction of oil shale, stone, sand and clay expanded. Export sales of manufactured goods grew 8% compared with August 2025, and domestic sales rose 3.7%. Lead analyst Riin Kadarik highlighted the mixed performance across sectors.

Why it matters

The data shows Estonia's economy is being buoyed by energy growth, offsetting weaker manufacturing, which influences policy and investment decisions.
