Estonian police detain 46 illegal entrants and a Romanian suspect in a week

From September 17 onward, Estonian police have apprehended 46 foreign nationals who entered the country without legal permission, traveling through Belarus and Latvia and arriving in several districts of Tallinn as well as near the Latvian border. Local residents and police intelligence led to the arrests. In Pärnu County, officers and Finnish border guards stopped a Latvian-registered vehicle, where a Romanian driver concealed five South Asian migrants among luggage.

The Romanian, 54, is being held on suspicion of organizing the illegal transport, with criminal proceedings opened under the Penal Code. All migrants are detained at a Tallinn facility, and the Romanian suspect remains in custody following a court order. This follows nearly 50 investigations this year into illegal cross-border transport, with 187 migrants detained since July.
