EU Announces 41,000 Free Trips for Young People Starting 2027
The EU will fund up to 41,000 complimentary journeys for youths born in 2008, with applications due by 15 October.
From March 2027 through May 2028, the European Union will offer 41,000 free travel slots to young people born between 1 January and 31 December 2008. Eligible applicants must reside in an EU member state or one of the associated countries Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia or Turkey. Applications close on 15 October, and the scheme expands next year to include British youth as the UK joins the Erasmus Plus exchange.
Why it matters
It gives a large cohort of European youth a chance to travel and gain experience at no cost, fostering cultural exchange.
