EU approves €52 million Romanian aid package for cattle farmers

The European Commission gave the green light to a Romanian state aid scheme worth €52 million, aimed at cattle farmers burdened by increasing fuel and fertiliser expenses. The Romanian authorities notified the Commission that the assistance would be provided as direct grants, capped at €50,000 per eligible business. The scheme operates under the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework and is scheduled to remain active through 31 December 2026.
EU officials assessed the programme against state aid rules, confirming it meets the necessary conditions and is proportionate. The Commission concluded the aid is necessary to sustain primary agricultural production without distorting market competition.
