EU Commission approves new funding package for Ukraine's air and missile defence
The European Commission has cleared additional financing to help Ukraine buy air-defence systems, ammunition, drones and electronic warfare gear.
In a recent decision, the European Commission authorised extra resources to support Ukraine's procurement of air-defence and missile-defence hardware, ammunition, drones and electronic-warfare tools. The package allows Kyiv to purchase U.S. PAC-3 missiles for its Patriot air-defence batteries, with the money coming from the EU's loan arrangement for Ukraine. To speed up delivery, five waivers from normal procurement requirements have been granted, three of which apply to drones and components made in Ukraine and two to specific American equipment, including the PAC-3.
The announcement echoes statements by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who previously highlighted NATO-coordinated purchases for Ukraine. Officials say the funding underscores continued EU and NATO cooperation in supporting Kyiv's defence needs.
