EU Commission approves Temu's remediation plan to curb illegal product listings online
European Commission accepted Temu's action plan aimed at fixing breaches of EU rules and stopping illegal goods from being sold on its platform.
European Commission has approved a remediation plan submitted by Chinese e-commerce platform Temu to address non-compliance with the EU’s Digital Services Regulation and the presence of illegal products online. The plan outlines five measures, including a dedicated risk assessment for Temu, the adoption of trustworthy metrics to monitor the reduction of illegal content, and a review of the platform’s moderation mechanisms.
Temu will also examine how its recommendation system may amplify illegal listings and investigate deliberate manipulation by sellers using platform tools. Regulators have set a four-month deadline for an interim risk review, part of a six-month timeframe ending later this year, to ensure the actions are implemented. The commission highlighted the case as an example of the Digital Services Regulation strengthening consumer protection across Europe.
