EU Commission grants sweeping oversight powers over ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox
The European Commission has classified ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox as very large online services, giving Brussels authority to audit their data, algorithms and impose fines up to 6% of global turnover.
On August 31 the European Commission placed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox under the Digital Services Act regime, granting Brussels new supervisory powers over the services. The move gives EU authorities the ability to request data and code, interview staff and inspect premises. The three platforms are now subject to EU‑wide rules aimed at addressing illegal content, protection of minors and other systemic risks. The Commission said the measures reflect the substantial impact these services have on citizens across the bloc.
