EU Court Upholds Stripchat's Designation as Very Large Online Platform under DSA

Stripchat lost its legal fight against the European Commission’s decision to classify it as a very large online platform under the Digital Services Act.

Stripchat, an adult-content platform operated by Cyprus-based Technius, attempted to overturn the European Commission’s classification of it as a very large online platform under the EU Digital Services Act. The designation, made three years ago, subjects the site to heightened responsibilities for removing illegal and harmful content, with penalties of up to 6 % of worldwide revenue for breaches. Stripchat contested the user-count metric used to trigger the classification, filing a lawsuit in the Luxembourg General Court.

The court dismissed the challenge, finding the Commission’s justification adequate and upholding the platform’s inclusion on the DSA list. The decision can be appealed on points of law before the EU Court of Justice. The case is recorded as T-134/24 Technius v Commission.

Why it matters

The ruling forces Stripchat to meet EU content-moderation rules, highlighting how the Digital Services Act applies to adult-content sites.
