EU diesel prices have surged to a record €2.24 per litre, a development Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen described as evidence that market volatility will persist and urged governments to tap existing mechanisms to ease consumer costs. At the same time, Spain's Congress is holding a critical vote on two government-backed housing measures designed to tackle soaring rents and protect tenants, a decision that could have unpredictable political repercussions for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's coalition.
Analyst Osama Rizvi of Primary Vision provided a market overview of the price spike. In Bucharest, Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu warned that Russian drone activity over Ukraine is now entering Romanian airspace and that the country faces an expanding wave of cyberattacks, sabotage and other hybrid warfare tactics. The combined energy, housing and security issues underscore mounting pressures across the EU.
