EU expands sanctions list targeting firms that evade Russia restrictions
The EU Council announced new sanctions on several companies and individuals accused of helping Russia bypass existing trade bans.
In a press release dated October 15, the Council of the EU listed new individuals and companies for breaching EU sanctions on Russia. Among those named are MOVERS GROUP LLC and its general director Dmitry Chudovsky, the customs broker LLC DT INIER with shareholder Ivanna Savchuk, and United Stream LLC headed by Svetlana Gumenyuk, all accused of facilitating prohibited imports. Additional firms from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, India and the Seychelles—such as DIS Logistics DMCC, Vigor Marine Services LLP, SHIVA SHIPPING LTD and HURUS TRADE FZE—are identified as part of Russia's shadow shipping fleet.
Kaja Kallas described the move as a step toward making Russia's war effort more expensive and harder to sustain. The sanctions build on earlier EU measures that have already blocked more than one trillion euros of Russian assets.
Why it matters
The expanded sanctions tighten economic pressure on Russia by targeting networks that sustain its war effort.
