EU fuel prices surge in August, Poland sees near-25% jump
In August, fuel and lubricant prices rose in 26 of the 27 EU members, with Poland experiencing a rise of about 24%.
According to Eurostat, August saw fuel and lubricant prices outpace those of the previous year in 26 out of 27 EU states, with 18 nations registering increases above 20%. The most pronounced surges occurred in Lithuania (28.8%), Finland (27.6%), Germany (27.5%) and France (27.4%). Hungary, Sweden and Ireland recorded the lowest growth rates at 1.3%, 6.1% and 11.7% respectively.
In Poland, fuel prices rose by about 24%, pushing them toward record levels. The report also highlighted a sharp 55.8% jump in the value of total fuel imports to the EU in the second quarter, while LNG import value grew 4.1% despite a 5.6% volume drop. Gas imports rose both in value (18.5%) and volume (3.4%). Oil prices continued to fall, with West Texas Intermediate down 1.91% and Brent down 1.86%, extending a multi-day decline.
