EU Leaders Set to Meet in Brussels Mid-October to Review Crises and Enlargement

European Council President António Costa has invited EU heads of state to a two-day summit in Brussels on 15-16 October to assess crisis measures, discuss enlargement and examine Middle-East developments.

António Costa, as European Council President, has formally summoned EU leaders to Brussels for a high-level meeting on 15 and 16 October. The agenda begins with an appraisal of existing crisis-response rules, urging member states to stay alert and to develop more robust solidarity tools for acute emergencies. The discussion then shifts to institutional reforms and enlargement policy, drawing on the European Commission’s recent communication and targeting the completion of Montenegro’s accession negotiations by year-end.

The last part of the talks will evaluate recent political and security shifts in the Middle East, with a particular focus on safeguarding freedom of navigation and maritime routes that underpin energy, fertilizer and food supplies worldwide. The summit is slated to conclude after a working lunch on Friday.
