EU regulator penalises Google over location‑data GDPR breaches

After a six‑year investigation, Ireland’s Data Protection Commission concluded that Google breached GDPR rules on location tracking. The probe examined Google’s handling of web and app activity, location‑history data and accuracy from May 25 2018 to February 4 2020, finding that many users were unaware their whereabouts were being used for advertising and profiling. The regulator warned that such processing can expose highly private information and ordered Google to bring its data‑processing into compliance within six months. Google said the issues stem from historical policies that have since been revised.
