EU trade committee MEPs travel to China to address market gaps and industrial ties
A delegation of European Parliament trade committee members will visit Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai to discuss trade imbalances and market access with Chinese officials.
From 27 to 29 October, a European Parliament International Trade Committee delegation headed by Bernd Lange will travel to Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai. The group will engage Chinese Ministry of Commerce officials, EU business representatives and IMF and World Bank staff to tackle the EU’s growing daily trade deficit of €1 billion with China. Key topics include industrial overproduction, access to critical raw materials, unequal market access for European firms and the impact of cheap Chinese imports.
The mission follows earlier discussions by Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and builds on the 2018 INTA visit. Delegates will also tour tech innovators Unitree and BrainCo in Hangzhou, while reviewing the EU’s new Industrial Accelerator Act and a recent hybrid-car import agreement.
Why it matters
The talks could shape future EU-China trade rules and affect European industries reliant on Chinese markets.
