European consumers favor AI for banking help but still want human contact

A new EOS Csoport study finds that while many Europeans are open to using AI for routine banking tasks, a majority still miss human interaction.

EOS Csoport’s latest Banking AI Barometer examined how Europeans view artificial intelligence in the financial sector. Participants praised AI for providing rapid answers, round-the-clock service and aiding information retrieval. Yet confidence in AI’s precision and problem-resolution remained modest, and many respondents highlighted the need for a human touch in banking communications.

Younger users, particularly those aged 18 to 34, were more willing to discuss delicate banking matters with AI than older cohorts. The survey revealed a strong appetite for proactive AI features, such as alerts when accounts approach overdraft and customized payment-plan suggestions for overdue debts. Overall, the report suggests that successful banks will blend AI tools with personal service rather than replace human interaction entirely.

Why it matters

Understanding consumer preferences helps banks balance AI efficiency with the need for personal service.
