European telecom CEOs urge EU to revise Digital Networks and Cybersecurity laws
Seventeen European telecom CEOs, including Meo’s Ana Figueiredo, sent a letter to EU leaders asking for changes to the Digital Networks Act and the Cybersecurity Act.
A group of seventeen telecom CEOs from across Europe, among them Meo’s Ana Figueiredo, Orange’s Christel Heydemann and Telefónica’s Marc Murtra, have written to top EU officials urging revisions to the Digital Networks Act and the Cybersecurity Act. They warn that one outlet legislative direction could jeopardise the continent’s connectivity backbone and its ambition to regain technological leadership. The letter stresses the sector’s role in contributing to Europe’s GDP and the importance of policies that unlock capital for network rollout rather than impose blanket equipment removals.
The CEOs cite recent positive steps such as the Cloud and AI Development Act and new satellite spectrum rules, but say further reforms are needed to foster investment in 5G, 6G and related technologies. They request a risk-based, proportionate approach to cybersecurity that does not drain resources needed for critical infrastructure.
