Eurozone and EU economic sentiment slips in September amid weaker consumer confidence
The European Commission said economic sentiment fell in September for both the euro area and the EU, driven by a drop in consumer confidence.
According to the Commission, the decline in sentiment was offset by rising confidence in industry and, to a lesser extent, construction. Confidence in services and retail remained broadly unchanged. Among major economies, France and Italy saw the biggest drops, while Spain, Germany and the Netherlands recorded gains. Expectations for employment also slipped in both the euro area and the EU.
