Evan Neal could earn a backup spot on the Giants' 53-man roster
The New York Giants may keep offensive tackle Evan Neal on the active roster as a backup lineman after his recent progress in preseason.
First-year offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren praised Evan Neal's development, saying the 6-foot-7, 340-pound player now understands alignments better and shows more confidence on the field. If the Giants decide to keep ten offensive linemen, Neal could claim one of the five backup slots alongside Aaron Stinnie, Joshua Ezeudu or Bryan Hudson. Drafted seventh overall in 2022, Neal struggled at right tackle and did not play a snap last season after moving to right guard, yet he chose to re-sign with the Giants on a zero-guarantee deal.
The team’s depth chart also includes J.C. Davis, Marcus Mbow, Daniel Faalele and Lucas Patrick as starters and primary backups. Meanwhile, head coach John Harbaugh discussed giving rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart early reps before the season opener against the Vikings, while several players remain sidelined with injuries.
Why it matters
Giants fans need to know if a former high draft pick will make the active roster and impact the offensive line.
