EverWind pledges $10 billion for Nova Scotia data centre and wind projects

EverWind announced a $10 billion private investment to build a data centre campus at Point Tupper and fund on-shore wind projects in Nova Scotia.

EverWind disclosed a $10 billion private financing plan that combines an $8 billion data-centre development at its Point Tupper site near Port Hawkesbury with $2 billion for on-shore wind projects in Nova Scotia. The data centre will host a “very, very large” AI company under a long-term lease, beginning with a 95-MW phase in late 2027 and expanding by 325 MW in 2028, ultimately reaching 420 MW to serve growing AI and digital-service demand.

The firm will fund all electricity infrastructure and install several hundred megawatt-hours of battery storage, while using a closed-loop cooling system that is expected to consume about 100,000 litres of water per day initially, rising to roughly 500,000 litres at full build-out. EverWind projects 2,000 construction jobs and 215 permanent high-paying positions, plus indirect employment and over $400 million in municipal tax revenue.

Provincial leaders, including Premier Tim Houston and Richmond County warden Lois Landry, praised the project, whereas NDP leader Claudia Chender warned of insufficient consultation on power-rate and water impacts. Negotiations are ongoing with a First Nations consortium led by Membertou Development Corporation for a possible ownership stake.

Why it matters

The investment could boost Nova Scotia’s economy, create jobs and expand Canada’s AI computing capacity while raising environmental and rate-payer concerns.
