The MDAX-listed chemicals producer Evonik revealed a restructuring program that will see 3,200 jobs disappear, including 2,150 positions in Germany. After a strategic review, the firm will reorganize its product portfolio by role profiles and allocate distinct responsibilities to its six large German production sites. Claus Rettig, the transition manager, said the board, supervisory board and employee representatives share the view that the industry faces a structural and economic crisis.
Evonik sees its strongest growth prospects in Asia and the Americas, where it is evaluating additional investment projects. Financial details of the savings and any special costs were not disclosed. The company aims to complete one outlet reductions by the end of 2026 and to implement a further socially responsible plan by 2029 without compulsory dismissals.
