Ex-Australia opener Will Pucovski sues former school over 2014 concussion

Will Pucovski, who played a single Test for Australia in 2021, has initiated legal action against Brighton Grammar, contending the school did not properly manage a concussion he incurred during a football training session in 2014. The incident left him unconscious, caused blurred vision the next day, and required hospital admission a week later, yet he resumed training almost immediately. Over the ensuing years he suffered 13 recorded concussions, the cumulative effect of which forced his retirement at 27 after a medical panel’s recommendation following a March 2024 head injury from a ball hit by Riley Meredith.

Pucovski’s statement of claim highlights the school’s alleged negligence and references warnings from the International Concussion Society about missed injuries in young athletes. His retirement followed a shoulder injury that kept him out of a decisive Test at the Gabba, but it was the repeated head trauma that ultimately ended his professional cricket career.
