Ex-bodyguard's violent rampage wrecks former senator's Arizona home, causing $200K damage

Former senator Kyrsten Sinema’s ex-bodyguard and lover, Matthew Ammun, is accused of a destructive spree at her Cave Creek, Arizona residence on Aug. 30. Court filings allege he demanded a social-media post, threatening to ruin her artwork every ten minutes until she complied. When she declined, he hurled roughly 22 paintings into the pool, broke several high-end liquor bottles, and smashed a large mounted mirror, pushing total damage estimates above $200,000, including $123,015 for the paintings.

Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies discovered the submerged canvases and a spray-painted artwork on Sept. 3. Ammun was taken into custody on Sept. 19, charged with felony criminal damage, and placed in a behavioral health center for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation before being released without bond under electronic monitoring. The incident follows a civil suit by Ammun’s former wife, Heather Ammun, alleging Sinema’s affair destroyed their marriage under North Carolina’s “homewrecker” law.
