Ex-boyfriend kills Walmart employee in Cheltenham after marriage-green-card plan collapses

Walmart employee Latosha Cooper was fatally shot in Cheltenham by her ex-boyfriend Destino Jean Louis after she ended a marriage plan meant to secure his green card.

Latosha Cooper, a longtime employee at the Walmart in Cheltenham’s Wyncote area, was killed on Oct. 21 when a masked assailant shot her twice with a.22 caliber handgun as she walked to her car after work. Investigators linked the murder to Destino Jean Louis, a 23-year-old Haitian who had previously worked at the store and was dismissed last year over immigration issues. Jean Louis had entered the United States in 2023 under a humanitarian program and sought residency by marrying Cooper, receiving a marriage license in March 2025.

When Cooper withdrew her petition in July, Jean Louis began calling coworkers, tracking her schedule, and waiting outside the store on multiple occasions before the fatal ambush. He was arrested in West Oak Lane, where a cache of.22 ammunition was found, and is now detained without bail, denying any involvement despite his claims.
