Ex-senator Trillanes launches fresh accusations against Vice President Duterte

Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV held a Manila press briefing, accusing Vice President Sara Duterte of China links, a dubious company name, hidden time-deposit assets, and criticizing presiding officer Chiz Escudero.

At a press conference in Manila, Antonio Trillanes IV, removed from the impeachment trial witness list, leveled several new charges against Vice President Sara Duterte. He claimed she has undisclosed connections to China, pointed to a possibly fictitious name in one of her businesses, and alleged she failed to report sizable time-deposit holdings in her SALN. Trillanes also attacked Senate President Chiz Escudero, who oversaw the trial proceedings.

Why it matters

The claims could intensify political tensions and scrutiny of the vice president’s finances ahead of upcoming elections.
