Ex-Swansea ballboy who was struck by Eden Hazard sells vodka brand for £300 million
Charlie Morgan, the boy famously kicked by Eden Hazard in 2013, has sold his Au Vodka business to Sazerac for £300 million.
In 2013, 17-year-old Charlie Morgan became an internet sensation when Chelsea star Eden Hazard kicked him during a match against Swansea City. A decade later, Morgan and friend Jackson Quinn launched the premium spirit Au Vodka, securing endorsements from personalities such as Floyd Mayweather, Ronaldinho and DJ Charlie Slot. The brand grew to occupy a gold-trimmed office in Swansea and, after nine years, was acquired by American liquor conglomerate Sazerac for £300 million.
Sazerac chief executive Jake Wenz said the deal reflects the brand's remarkable development. Morgan, now 30, recently sat down with Hazard to recount the incident, noting he had initially thought the kick came from Juan Mata. The sale provides Morgan with lifelong financial security and illustrates how fleeting fame can translate into a major business exit.
Why it matters
The deal shows how viral notoriety can be leveraged into a multi-hundred-million-pound corporate sale.
