Ex-TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh arrested over 'hurried cremation' of RG Kar rape-murder victim
KOLKATA: Former Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh was arrested on Thursday in connection with the alleged hurried cremation of the body of a doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024. Ghosh and two others were named in an FIR registered at Khardah police station following a complaint by the deceased doctor's father. Attending a memorial programme for the victim doctor in Panihati on Sunday, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari had directed the Barrackpore Police Commissioner to launch a fresh probe into the alleged hasty cremation.
The allegationsFather of the victim alleged that the cremation was carried out in undue haste under the supervision of the three accused, allegedly to prevent the possibility of a second autopsy and conceal evidence. A senior police officer of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate said the new case was separate from the CBI investigation into the rape and murder.
