Exelon promotes CFO Jeanne Jones to new finance-strategy chief role

Exelon will move its longtime finance chief Jeanne Jones into a newly created EVP position that blends finance and corporate strategy, while Robert Kleczynski steps up as the next CFO.

Exelon announced that Jeanne Jones, a near-20-year veteran who has served as CFO since 2022, will transition to a newly created role of executive vice president of finance and strategy on Oct. 5, placing her at the center of the company’s long-term planning. She will continue to answer to President and CEO Calvin Butler, while Robert Kleczynski, the current senior vice president, controller and head of tax, will succeed her as chief financial officer and become her direct report.

The shift underscores an industry-wide evolution where finance chiefs are increasingly tasked with shaping capital allocation and strategic bets alongside CEOs, a move especially pertinent for utilities facing surging demand, grid modernization needs, and pressure to keep rates affordable. Exelon, a Fortune 500 regulated utility serving 11 million customers after spinning off its generation arm Constellation Energy in 2022, must balance aggressive infrastructure investment with cost control.

Jones’s extensive background across Exelon’s operations and former generation business is expected to guide decisions on where and how much to invest. The company said the new structure aims to better align long-term strategy, capital spending and operational execution.

Why it matters

The reshuffle puts finance at the heart of Exelon’s strategy as utilities face costly upgrades and rising demand.
