Expedition to Locate Amelia Earhart's Plane Delayed by Rough Seas

Purdue University’s research team arrived at the remote Nikumaroro Atoll in Kiribati to examine the underwater formation known as the Taraia Object. After a brief postponement caused by severe weather, fieldwork resumed on October 14, employing sonar, magnetometers and other archaeological techniques to scan beneath lagoon sediments. Researchers said a preliminary identification is expected within the next two days, after which they will depart the atoll. The expedition remains focused on determining whether the object could be related to Amelia Earhart’s 1937 Lockheed Electra.
