Expert warns a Trump-ordered draft would cripple the GOP for years

Christopher Lee, a veteran campaign operative, told one outlet that any plan to institute a draft and send U.S. troops into Iran would be disastrous for Donald Trump and the Republican Party. He likened a ground invasion to building a house on an active volcano, emphasizing that the war has so far been conducted from aircraft carriers and bombers, rendering a draft superfluous. Lee highlighted that the Selective Service System may shift to automatic registration as early as December, which would enlist men aged 18-26, including many refugees and green-card holders the administration seeks to deport.
He added that the campaign has already strained ammunition stocks, increased national debt, and caused fuel and fertilizer price spikes due to the Strait of Hormuz closure, putting pressure on Trump before the November elections. Declaring defeat would tarnish Trump’s legacy, while escalation would likely cause U.S. casualties, further harming his and the GOP’s standing.
