Police in Rotterdam announced that an explosion on Moezelweg at approximately 11:30 a.m. resulted in one death and several injuries. The blast site has been cordoned off as investigators work to determine the origin of the incident. Gunvor Energy, which runs oil product storage tanks nearby, reported a distinct maintenance incident that likewise left a number of people hurt, and the company is cooperating with local authorities.
Earlier that morning, the port experienced multiple power cuts, and safety officials are assessing any possible connection to the blast.
