Explosion shatters café window in Mannheim's Neckarstadt, one lightly injured

An explosion ripped through a café in Mannheim’s Neckarstadt district on Monday morning, lightly injuring one person. Police are investigating the cause.

A morning explosion struck a café in Mannheim’s Neckarstadt neighbourhood on Monday, shattering a storefront window and leaving one customer with minor injuries treated at a hospital. According to the owner, Francesco Silva, a shattered pane was followed by someone hurling what appeared to be a firecracker-like bomb through the door, as shown on a black-and-white security clip taken on his phone. Police have not disclosed the trigger of the blast and have excluded a gas explosion, launching a broad investigation.

The incident forced the closure of the adjacent street and a temporary suspension of tram traffic, while fire crews responded to smoke. Silva, who runs several bars and reported no prior conflicts, said the café had just closed before the blast and a cleaning staff member was present. The investigation remains ongoing.
