Explosive-laden drone crashes into tree near Geamăna, Moldovan police defuse device

A drone carrying an explosive charge struck a tree about 13 metres high in a forest near Geamăna, Moldova, and police safely disabled the bomb.

Around 22:20 on Saturday, inhabitants of the Anenii Noi region alerted authorities to an unmanned aerial vehicle hovering near the village of Geamăna. Officers located the drone after it collided with a tree at an estimated height of 13 metres, approximately 100 metres from a nearby road. The technical-explosive section of the police force successfully neutralised the bomb attached to the aircraft, eliminating any risk of a secondary explosion.

Investigators collected damaged drone parts from the site and will conduct expert analyses to determine the origin and purpose of the device. No casualties have been reported. The incident adds to a series of airspace violations recorded by the Moldovan National Army, which notes 81 cases between 2022 and 2026, including drones, decoy drones and rockets.
