Explosive thrown at Antioch resident's home after viral racist rant video

An explosive device was hurled at the house of an Antioch man who was filmed making racial slurs, causing minor damage but no injuries.

At 10:11 a.m. on Monday, officers were called to a property in the Lake Alhambra section of Antioch after a device, initially thought to be a large firework, was thrown and detonated, leaving only minor damage and no injuries. The home belongs to a man whose video of a racist tirade had recently gone viral, leading the Antioch Police to issue a public appeal urging residents not to take matters into their own hands. The Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad arrived to secure the area and gather forensic evidence.

The controversy dates back to July when the same resident was arrested on allegations of a civil-rights violation and simple battery, resulting in a court-issued restraining order. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office later filed misdemeanor charges, and the case remains pending. Investigators are interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and pursuing several leads, but no suspect has been named.
