According to UNICEF, extreme weather events forced school closures, damaged facilities and shifted learning online, impacting over one in ten pupils in 106 nations. Girls are disproportionately likely to drop out when schools are damaged or lessons are cancelled. The agency cites damaged classrooms, sanitation facilities and reduced household incomes as factors that increase girls' caregiving and water-collection duties.
