Fall vacation rentals see slimmer discounts as summer demand spills over

Vrbo reports that fall travel prices are only slightly lower than summer rates, with fewer cheap deals as demand extends into the shoulder season.

Vrbo’s latest analysis indicates that the usual post-summer price dip is narrowing, with fall nightly rates only 5% under summer peaks across its top markets. Interest in autumn rentals is up 17% year over year, pushing demand into the period that once offered steep discounts. Beach destinations still provide the biggest savings, highlighted by Myrtle Beach’s 34% price drop from August to October, and other coastal towns offering 12%-31% reductions.

European rentals see an average 8% fall-season decline, though major cities such as London and Paris retain higher prices. In the United States, cities like Nashville, Boston, Chicago and Miami are experiencing rising rates, while the most substantial bargains are projected for the post-New Year window, with prices potentially 34% below summer highs in places like San Diego, Los Angeles and Orlando.

Why it matters

Travelers must adjust expectations as fall vacation-rental bargains shrink and demand stays strong.
