The next-of-kin of four Ministry of Health staff killed in the Long Lellang helicopter crash will begin receiving monthly derivative pensions on Oct 21.
The government confirmed that the families of four Ministry of Health workers who perished in the Long Lellang Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash will receive monthly derivative pensions beginning Oct 21. Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the Ministry of Health, together with the Public Service Department and the Sarawak State Health Department, has arranged the pension distribution alongside lump-sum compensation covering accumulated leave, a gratuity, funeral expenses and an ex-gratia death payment of at least RM130,000 per victim.
He also noted that a proposal to grant posthumous promotions to the four staff members has been approved as a mark of respect. The crash on September 8 claimed five lives, including the four healthcare personnel who were on official duty serving a remote community. The pension scheme will be allocated to eligible beneficiaries according to legal provisions, ensuring each dependent receives their entitled share.
