Families to Receive Remains of Five Victims from Sarawak Helicopter Crash
The bodies of five people killed in a Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash near Long Lellang have been identified by DNA and will be handed to their relatives today.
A helicopter operated by the Flying Doctor Service crashed near Long Lellang in Sarawak, killing all five on board, including four medical personnel and the pilot. DNA analysis performed by police and the Department of Chemistry confirmed the identities of the victims, and Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that their remains will be delivered to families today from the Forensic Department of Miri Hospital. Specific burial arrangements include Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin in Kelantan, Nurse Debra anak Moset in Kuching, Assistant Medical Officer Alexson Adit anak Henry and Nurse Jessie Paya Jok in Miri, and Pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham in Negri Sembilan.
The Flying Doctor Service has been temporarily halted for a full review, and the Health Ministry is coordinating with the Fire and Rescue Department to keep emergency medical evacuations operational for remote communities. The minister thanked the public for their prayers and support, noting it has helped families and colleagues cope with the tragedy.
