Family and friends' alerts led to arrest of abusive fiancé before wedding

Amy began dating Christopher Malcolm in late August 2023, quickly moving from a coffee date to meeting his parents and becoming engaged by Christmas. Over time, Malcolm exerted control, restricting her communication, demanding she quit work early, and subjecting her to repeated physical assaults, including facial bruising, a fractured wrist, and sexual violence. Concerned relatives and friends submitted text messages, photos of injuries, and other evidence to Police Scotland’s disclosure scheme, which allowed officers to act despite Amy’s reluctance to file a report.

The accumulated information led to Malcolm’s arrest in September 2024, shortly before the wedding was to take place. After the arrest, Amy provided a full account of the abuse, and the case proceeded based on the evidence supplied by her supporters.
