Family of 16-year-old injured by police LBD in Tours files assault complaint
The parents of 16-year-old Maël, who lost use of his right eye after a police LBD strike in Tours, have filed a complaint for abuse of authority.
During a police intervention to disperse a blockade of a lycée in Tours, 16-year-old student Maël was struck by a less-lethal LBD round, resulting in the loss of sight in his right eye. Medical-legal analysis concluded the wound matched an LBD impact, and he received hospital treatment. Within days, his mother and father submitted a complaint accusing police of abusing their authority, a move announced by prosecutor Catherine Sorita-Minard.
The Inspection générale de la police nationale (IGPN) has taken over the investigation. Authorities noted that the incident occurred while police and firefighters faced protesters throwing objects. The investigation remains ongoing as the IGPN examines the circumstances of the shooting.
