Family of Renee Good Files Federal Lawsuits Over Fatal Shooting by Immigration Officer

Renee Good’s partner and brother have sued the U.S. government and several immigration officials, alleging wrongful death and civil-rights violations after she was shot by an immigration officer in Minneapolis.

Becca Good and Brent Ganger have brought two separate suits against the United States and multiple immigration officials, accusing them of wrongful death and a conspiracy to violate civil rights after Renee Good was killed by an immigration officer during a Minneapolis raid on Jan. 7. The complaints allege battery, assault, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence, and they name the officer who fired, Jonathan Ross, along with high-level figures such as Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security head Kristi Noem, former Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino and campaign operative Corey Lewandowski.

Video footage captured Good’s red SUV blocking the street, honking repeatedly, and an officer ordering her to exit before firing into the windshield. Federal officials at the time defended the shooting as self-defense and described the incident as an act of domestic terrorism. The lawsuits follow other recent incidents involving immigration agents, including the killing of Alex Pretti and other fatal shootings, fueling nationwide calls for tighter oversight of immigration enforcement.
