Family-related shooting and blaze kills several, including children, in Billings home

Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Billings police were dispatched to a home where an active shooter was reported; officers arrived within 15 minutes and heard gunfire coming from the back of the house. Shortly thereafter, flames and thick smoke engulfed the property, producing a large plume visible on video. The suspect, identified by law enforcement, was known to the victims and died after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a local hospital.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Kent O'Donnell described the event as a family-related disturbance, noting that all persons targeted in the shooting were killed, including both adults and children. The sheriff’s office and Billings Police Department have not released detailed victim information, citing the need to protect the investigation’s integrity. The scene remains cordoned off as investigators collect evidence over the coming days.
