Fans line Welsh seaside village as Bonnie Tyler's coffin returns home

Bonnie Tyler, the Grammy-nominated Welsh vocalist known for “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” was laid to rest in her hometown after passing away in Portugal at age 75. On Saturday, her coffin, covered with a Welsh flag, was driven through the seaside village of Mumbles, prompting hundreds of admirers to line the streets. Many gathered outside her former residence, leaving floral tributes, while others traveled from various parts of the United Kingdom to witness the procession.

Carys Edwards, an 18-year-old local, remarked that Tyler consistently returned to Wales to connect with fans. The singer, born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, grew up in a coal-mining family and later earned three Grammy nominations and an MBE in 2022. A private memorial service will be held at a Swansea church before her final interment in Skewen.
