Far-right activist Tommy Robinson begins trial for alleged journalist harassment
Tommy Robinson, founder of the English Defence League, appeared in Southwark Crown Court to start his trial on two harassment charges involving MailOnline reporters.
Tommy Robinson, the public figure who founded the English Defence League, is on trial in London for alleged harassment of two MailOnline journalists. The charges stem from activity on the social-media platform X from August 5 to 7, 2024, where Robinson is accused of posting messages that threatened Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber, creating a fear of violence. A specific phone call on August 5 allegedly included a statement to Young that Robinson would come to his house.
Robinson, whose birth name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, pleaded not guilty to both counts in July 2025. The proceedings began on Monday at Southwark Crown Court. The outcome will determine whether the activist faces penalties for the alleged intimidation of the reporters.
Why it matters
